Lilburn doesn't announce itself the way some of its Gwinnett County neighbors do — there's no sprawling downtown or big commercial strip driving the identity. What Lilburn has instead is roughly seven square miles of tightly knit, mostly residential neighborhoods, a small historic core in Old Town Lilburn around Main Street and Railroad Avenue, and one of the most genuinely diverse populations in North Georgia — U.S. Census figures put the city at roughly 40% Hispanic, 34% White, 21% Asian, and 15% Black residents. The city was incorporated on July 27, 1910, and much of its housing stock dates to a single long building wave from the 1960s through the 1980s, which means a lot of Lilburn's yards are carrying 40-to-60-year-old shade trees that have outgrown the modest lots they were planted on.
