Professional tree trimming and pruning across North Georgia β licensed, insured, and ISA-certified.
Imagine a summer thunderstorm rolling through North Georgia, wind gusting through a canopy that hasn't been thinned in years β and a heavy limb overhanging the roofline finally lets go. Or maybe the warning signs are quieter: a branch that's grown into the power line at the edge of the yard, a maple crowding the gutters, or a tree that just looks shaggier and more lopsided every summer. Regular trimming is one of the few things a homeowner can do ahead of time to keep a tree from becoming a storm-season liability, and it's also what keeps a healthy tree healthy for decades.
MMP Tree Service provides tree trimming and pruning across North Metro Atlanta, from a single ornamental tree near the front porch to full-property pruning on multi-acre lots in Cherokee, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Fulton County. Our crews are ISA Certified Arborists who prune to ANSI A300 standards, making proper structural cuts at the branch collar to encourage healthy regrowth rather than topping a tree β a fast, cheap-looking shortcut that weakens the structure, invites decay, and often costs more to correct later. We don't top trees, and we'll explain why during your estimate if another company has suggested it.
Trimming costs vary based on the tree and the scope of work involved, not a flat per-tree rate. The main factors we weigh when quoting a job:
Thinning a dense canopy reduces wind resistance, which lowers the odds of broken limbs or a toppled tree during one of North Georgia's summer thunderstorms or winter ice events. A tree trimmed ahead of storm season is far less likely to become a hazard once the wind picks up β and if a storm's already caused damage, our emergency tree service runs 24/7.
Dead, crossing, or rubbing limbs are more than an eyesore β they're entry points for disease and decay, and they put stress on the branches around them. Removing them early protects the rest of the tree and often prevents a much bigger problem down the road.
A limb resting on the roof, scraping siding, or growing into a power line is both a safety issue and a property risk. Trimming that clearance back protects your home and keeps the utility company from doing an aggressive cut of their own later.
A well-shaped, well-maintained tree adds noticeably to how a property looks and shows β for a sale, an appraisal, or just day-to-day pride in the yard. Overgrown or lopsided trees tend to do the opposite.
We work across 27 cities in North Metro Atlanta and know what matters locally β which species are prone to storm damage, city-specific tree ordinances, HOA rules, and the growth patterns typical of Piedmont clay soil.
Every crew works under a licensed and insured operation with ISA Certified Arborists on staff β ask any tree company for proof of insurance before they touch a chainsaw or pole saw on your property.
We make structural cuts at the branch collar following ANSI A300 standards, not the indiscriminate hacking of topping β a practice that weakens trees, invites decay, and often looks worse within a year or two.
We walk the property and give you a firm number before any cutting starts β no vague phone quotes, and no surprise charges for standard cleanup once the job is done.
MMP Tree Service is family-owned and operated, which means the crew on your property is accountable to a name and a reputation, not a corporate call center.

For most major structural pruning, late fall through winter β while trees are dormant β is ideal, since it's easier to see the branch structure and less stressful on the tree. Light maintenance trimming, like removing a hazardous limb or small deadwood, can safely happen nearly any time of year.
Thinning a dense canopy lets wind pass through more easily instead of catching branches like a sail, which reduces the chance of limb failure or a toppled tree during a North Georgia thunderstorm or ice event. Removing dead or weak limbs beforehand also eliminates the pieces most likely to break loose first.
No β we don't top trees. Topping removes large sections of the canopy indiscriminately, which stresses the tree, invites decay and disease, and typically causes weak, fast-growing regrowth that's less stable than the limbs it replaced. Instead, we use selective structural pruning at the branch collar to manage size and shape while keeping the tree healthy.
Most mature shade trees do well with structural pruning every three to five years, while younger trees benefit from more frequent, lighter shaping to establish good structure early. Fast-growing species, trees near structures, or ones with a history of storm damage may need more frequent attention β we can recommend a schedule during your estimate.
We can trim branches that are approaching or lightly interfering with a power line's clearance, but work directly on or immediately around energized lines is typically handled by the utility company or a licensed line-clearance crew for safety reasons. If a tree in your yard has grown into a line, we can assess it and point you to the right next step.
